Modular design for maximum flexibility was the key architectural design element for The University of Oklahoma’s Lin Hall. Named in recognition of former Professor Chun C. Lin, the new facility has fulfilled the Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy’s need for additional academic and research laboratory space and acts as a companion building for Nielson Hall; both collectively known as The Dodge Physics Complex.
From fundraising to master planning, through design and construction administration, our large, multi-national project team worked closely with specialty consultants to address complex site restraints and ultimately produced a design that was cohesive with the existing OU Campus vernacular. Featuring over 18,000 square feet of world-class research space dedicated to quantum physics, the facility features both indoor and outdoor public spaces, faculty and graduate offices, and an astronomy observatory located on the rooftop.
Due to the stringent demands of the research taking place at the quantum level, Lin Hall was designed to handle NIST-A experiments, one of only a few buildings in the world to do so. In addition to vibration and acoustic isolation, the laboratories feature advanced-temperature control and electromagnetic shielding. The facility is touted as one of the best environmentally-controlled research spaces in the nation and will serve as a state-of-the-art home to the next century of field-changing physics researchers.
